Break-In Damage Lock Repair
You came home to find the front door standing open. The deadbolt is still thrown, but the strike plate is dangling from one screw and a fist-sized piece of the jamb is lying on the hall floor.
Break-In Damage Lock Repair
A good cylinder shrugs off picking and bumping; a deep strike plate with long screws stops a shoulder. Together they turn an ordinary front door into one that holds. We fit high-security hardware to houses across Humberstone, set up keys that only you can have copied, and finish so the door closes as smoothly as before. This page also covers Bethel, Belleview Beach and Morgans Point.

2021 census · what it means at the door
80%Older homes
About 80% of homes in Port Colborne were built in 1980 or earlier, according to the 2021 Census.
Period hardware on older homes deserves matching parts, not a mismatched modern set. A locksmith who works among such houses keeps finishes and styles that suit them, so a repaired or replaced lock still looks like it belongs to the door.
71%Mostly houses
Single-detached houses make up about 71% of homes in Port Colborne (2021 Census).
A house has its own front door and its own frame, with nothing shared. That means the homeowner decides everything: the cylinder grade, the strike, the finish, whether to add a smart lock. The locksmith lays out the options and the household picks.
Locksmith services
Locks on homes and businesses in Humberstone go through the same stages: they get installed, they wear, they need rekeying when people change, and eventually they are upgraded or replaced. The services here follow that life cycle so you can find the right one at whatever stage your door has reached.

High security
Upgrading to high security often does not mean new locks. Many quality cylinders retrofit into the deadbolt or lever you already have, so the door keeps its look and gains a mechanism that resists picking, bumping and drilling.

High security locks are cylinders and deadbolts designed to defeat the methods used against ordinary doors. Inside the cylinder a second locking mechanism, usually a sidebar released by finger pins or rotating pins, has to be satisfied at the same time as the normal pin stack, which is what stops…

We look at the cylinder, the bolt, the strike, the hinges and any glass nearby, and say plainly which parts are sound and which are thin.

A graded deadbolt with a patented cylinder for most homes, rated cylinders and heavier lock bodies for businesses. You pick the doors and the depth.

Cylinders go in, strikes are screwed into the framing, keys are cut from code, and the system is registered so only you can order more.
Because that is where the weak point was. A standard strike plate is held by two short screws in a soft wood jamb, and the deadbolt only reaches into a shallow pocket behind it. A kick delivers the full weight of a body to those screws, and the wood around them splits along the grain. The bolt itself is rarely the failure. That is why the repair concentrates on the strike side: a boxed strike, a full-depth pocket and long screws into the stud.
Two reasons meet in the same season. Freeze-thaw weather sends meltwater into the keyway by day and freezes it by night, and cold thickens any old grease or oil that has been sprayed into the pins. At the same time dry, heated indoor air shrinks wood doors so bolts move in their pockets. Doors on the shaded or windward side get the worst of it. A dry lubricant, a keyhole cover and a check of the strike after the first hard frost take care of most of it.
You can, and it solves being without a key. It leaves the lost one working, though, which is the half of the problem that keeps people awake. Rekeying takes about as much effort as a trip to a hardware store counter and ends with a new key in your hand and the old one retired. If the key was mislaid somewhere it will never be found and named nothing, a plain copy is a fair choice.
What changes depends on the cylinder. Many locks turn when a row of small bottom pins lines up at a precise level, set by the cuts on your key, and during a rekey the locksmith tips those pins out and loads a set that lines up with a different key, cut new for you; some residential cylinders instead reset a side-locking bar without removing any pins. From then on the new key operates the lock and older keys do not, and the hardware on the door stays as it was.
You choose the numbers yourself, within whatever range and spacing that lock's rules allow, rather than being handed a default sequence. On a mechanical lock the locksmith uses a manufacturer change key to reset the wheel pack to your chosen combination; on an electronic lock the new code is entered directly through the keypad or a connected programming tool. Either way it is tested several times, door open and then closed, before the visit is considered complete.
